Do you suffer from acute or chronic pain? Would you like relief that helps your body to rediscover its natural balance in a way that is gentle and has lasting effectiveness? You might consider trying an Ortho-Bionomy session.
When the body is out of balance, it adapts as well as it can, but in the process it may create compensatory patterns of even greater stress and dysfunction. The elegance of applying Ortho-Bionomy principles allows the client and the Practitioner to work together to determine positions of ease. This allows the body’s self correcting reflexes to stimulate correction from within. Client are encouraged to offer feedback and are full partners in their own healing process.
Ortho-Bionomy is a wholistic approach to healing that works with the proprioceptic aspects of the nervous system to cue the self-corrective reflexes inherent in everyone. Ortho-Bionomy uses gentle positioning and movements which can allow tension patterns which are creating pain to relax, reset and reorganize from within.
Ortho-Bionomy is a principle based approach which means that we work with the conditions present in each individual body in any given moment. Because the principles of Ortho-Bionomy are to work with positions of ease rather than force, most people find an Ortho-Bionomy session to be comfortable and relaxing. Each session is different as self correction is as individual as each person.
Ortho-Bionomy is an innovative system for dealing with mysterious symptoms or conditions that elude successful treatment. It allows for a sophisticated analysis of the different dimensions and levels of body, mind and spirit, and uses a natural approach to invite balance and easeful function.
Whether looking for relief from specific discomfort or a safe and effective way to ease stress and promote relaxation, Ortho-Bionomy can be beneficial. It can also work in conjunction with other health and healing systems because Ortho-Bionomy opposes nothing.
Ortho-Bionomy is not intended to be a replacement for a relationship with your physician.
How Does Ortho-Bionomy Work?
Ortho-Bionomy is an approach to healing that works with the proprioceptive nervous system, which is an aspect of each body that tells us where we are in time and space. Proprioceptors are specialized structures found in muscles and tendons which are continually monitoring and adjusting tension patterns throughout the body. Sometimes, as a response to trauma, repeated activity and overuse, or emotional stress, the proprioceptors get misinformation or lose the connection with the rest of the body about what is happening and what is needed. A body can then develop patterns of dysfunction which can eventually create pain. If left untreated these patterns can involve larger parts of the body as they compensate as well as possible for those structures which aren’t functioning as designed.
Through gentle positioning and movement the Ortho-Bionomy Practitioner along with the client will find positions that take tension off of the proprioceptors involved. While resting in a ‘neutral’ position proprioceptors have the opportunity to reorganize and reset. The relationship and communication that take place through the nervous system, between the various structures, become apparent as the self-corrective reflexes stimulate observable changes in muscles, tissue, and movement patterns. Functionality and well-being improve as the body begins to let go of the limiting patterns of holding, and integrates new information with increased range of motion and better circulation.
Ortho-Bionomy also acknowledges and affirms the inner wisdom in your body which supports your health and well-being. Ortho-Bionomy encompasses the principles and practice of assisting the organism to come into relationship with its inherent ability to self-correct. Ortho-Bionomy is also compassionate, kind and nonjudgmental.
“The Founder of Ortho-Bionomy, Dr Arthur Lincoln Pauls, was a Judo instructor when he was exposed to Osteopathy from a patient’s point of view.
Pauls went on to study Osteopathy himself and soon encountered Lawrence Jones, D.O., an American Osteopath.
Lawrence Jones’s work is known as Spontaneous Release Positioning, later called Strain and Counterstrain.
Dr. Arthur Lincoln Pauls combined his Judo experience, osteopathic training, the approach outlined by Jones, and homeopathy which lead to Ortho-Bionomy.”
